![]() ![]() AP was more lowkey than YOI, since Moyu is a businessman, not an idol, his methods of wife chasing were also less flashy. So I think Qu Moyu should be crowned the new scum vice president of the 188 boys group for scum MLs. The novel strongly reminded me of Years of Intoxication - not only due to the MC, but also in terms of ML scum level - I'm still debating whether Qu Moyu is technically as scummy as Song Juhan, but to me he felt like top level scum (which is fitting, since he's the top alpha/top predator in the story's social hierarchy) and while most of the evil stuff he tried to do didn't succeed (thank God, otherwise there's no way I'd have forgiven him, and this would have ended up being a 'change the gong' story), in my opinion it was as bad as anything Juhan ever did.I'm still amazed how the author made me do a 180 turnover and not only root for him with the MC, but also completely forgive him even before the MC did. The ML made me so furious for the longest time - I was ready to murder him in the first 80-90 chapters because he was so awful to the MC.Made sense considering his personal background. I got strong He Gu-vibes from the MC, especially in the beginning where he was secretly pinning for the MC, but unlike He Gu he made much more healthy decisions for himself and was more logical. I really loved Shen Dai, one of her typical calm, mature, sensible MC shous in the vein of Gu Qingpei from Beloved Enemy and He Gu from Years of Intoxication. Characterization is, as always, top notch.I think that despite some flaws, this is really one of her best novels. I do love SQC's writing style, so I'm very biased here, but I do think that her writing style has vastly improved in recent years. It's really well-written, even by 188 standards. My thoughts after having chased it almost since the beginning (started around the time the first 15 chapters were out): Warning: Real spoilers will be hidden (and please don't spoil anything for new readers in the comment section), but if you haven't read AP yet and want to go in completely blind, then don't read this post, since I will be discussing things related to plot, themes and characters. Extras aren't out yet, but likely the author will publish some in the next week or so (I think she's taking a little break for now). So Shui Qiancheng's Alpha Predator is finally done - finished with 132 chapters, longer than most of her 188 novels, but not super long. ![]()
